Frequently Asked Q’s

New to Wax-Co? No worries, you’re in great hands. Here’s everything you need to know before your first visit.

General Questions

+ Do you re-use supplies?
Never! We uphold thorough hygiene standards and have a strict NO double dipping policy at Wax-Co.
+ I have my period. Can I still get waxed?
Of course. No biggy! All we ask is that you wear a fresh tampon to your appointment.
+ I am taking Accutane. Can I still get waxed?
Unfortunately, you cannot get waxed while taking Accutane. We recommend waiting at least 6 months after taking it before getting waxed. For facial services, we can offer threading or tweezing as an alternative.
+ How long does my hair need to be?
We require hair to be about a ¼ inch long for a successful wax. That’s about 3-4 weeks after your last shave, or 3-4 weeks after your wax.
+ Can I be intimate after my wax?
We recommend holding off immediately after waxing due to sweating and irritation. Waiting for 24 hours is advised.
+ How does your referral programme work?
You receive $5 off any service for every client you refer to Wax-Co.
+ What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that things can happen, and life is busy. If you need to cancel your appointment, we ask that you give us at least 4 hours notice for the majority of our services. If you don’t show up for your appointment twice, you will be required to provide a credit card to reserve future appointments, and future late cancellations and no-shows will be subject to a 50% fee.

Late cancellations and no-shows for Laser Treatments will be subject to a 50% fee. Late cancellations and no-shows for the Free Laser Consultation will be subject to a flat $20 fee.

+ What laser technology do you use?

We use the Elite+ by Cynosure.

+ What makes your laser different?

What sets the Elite+ apart is its dual wavelength technology. Most salons that offer laser hair removal use single wavelength lasers, which may not be the best for clients with a skin type between 4-6 on the Fitzpatrick scale. Our technology allows us to treat the lightest to the darkest skin types safely and more effectively.

+ Does laser hurt?

Just like waxing, laser can feel mildly uncomfortable. Most people describe it as feeling like little zaps on the skin. But not to worry, our sophisticated cynosure laser has a cooling system that is used throughout your appointment to minimize discomfort. It also has multiple spot sizes that mean we can treat you quickly to make it totally tolerable.

+ Can I wax in-between laser appointments?

No, you should not wax, tweeze or epilate throughout the course of your laser treatments. You can shave as much as you like, however.

+ Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes! Laser machines have come a long way in the last decade. Multiple safety features are built into our technology to offer safe treatments for all skin types. Our treatments are completely safe in the hands of our certified laserologists who receive extensive training prior to treating you. Our laser consultations allow us to thoroughly assess your medical history, look for any contraindicating medications, as well as any skin conditions that affect candidacy.

+ Can I get laser during pregnancy?

Sorry mamas! You’ll have to wait until your little bundle is here before receiving treatment. You can always wax during pregnancy months, however.

+ How many treatments will I need to see results?

Depending on the area being treated, you can expect to see results in as little as 2-3 sessions. For best results that are more permanent, you will need between 6-8 on average. Your laserologist will recommend your personal treatment model specific to your hair type.

+ Is laser permanent?

Our laser technology is the best in the industry and yields results between 70%-90% efficacy in hair reduction after 6-8 treatments. Things like changing hormones can cause regrowth to a small degree, but overall, laser hair removal will guarantee permanent hair reduction.

+ How do I prepare for my laser appointments?

We recommend you stop waxing and plucking for about 2 months prior to your first laser treatment. In this time, you can shave as much as you want. In fact, you need to be freshly shaved on the day of your appointments. If you have any questions, you can ask your laserologist during your free consultation.

Wax Questions

+ I’ve never been waxed before. Can I bring a friend for moral support?
We know your first appointment can feel daunting, but we only allow you and your waxologist in our treatment rooms during your service. But fear not, our pros are the best people and all the support you need. (This policy does not apply to clients who need a parent’s consent for service)

Hygiene At wax-co

We take cleanliness very seriously at Wax-Co. Our hygiene protocols make us the safest choice for your hair removal treatments. We follow all Public Health Guidelines, as well as our own internal cleaning protocols.

How we protect you

We sanitize every surface with disinfecting solution to ensure our bar is always clean for your visit. We pay special attention to wax beds, bathroom, door handles, debit machine, and countertops.
Gloves are worn by all of our waxologists and laserologists during your appointment. Hand washing and sanitizing is mandatory between each client.
We have a strict NO double dipping policy at Wax-Co. We also NEVER use both sides of the same stick (gross). Once a stick has touched your skin, it is immediately disposed of.
Each Esthetician has multiple tweezers in her room. So once a set of tweezers is used, it gets washed and sterilized, and another set is used for the next client. This policy ensures there is zero chance of cross-contamination.
We use fresh medical paper on our beds for each appointment that is disposed of and changed between clients. Beds are also sprayed and disinfected before putting on clean paper.

Client Love

I have been a client of Amanda’s for a long time. Her training is top notch, so you know you’re in great hands with any of the girls at Wax-Co. So excited to have a new place to go in Oshawa!
